What are AFPs? AFPs have operated within the Private Pension System (SPP) since its creation in 1993. They are, therefore, supervised by the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS).
Joining an AFP is mandatory for dependent workers, however if you are independent, you can do it voluntarily.
Currently, there are four AFPs in Peru:
AFP Integra, of the Sura group AFP Prima, of the Credit Group
AFP Profuturo, of the Scotiabank Group

What is an AFP for? The idea of contributing to an AFP is to generate a monthly savings that allows you to finance an income when you have retired. The earlier you start, the better your pension will be since the interest received is proportional to the time you have been contributing to your AFP.
If for reasons of force majeure you cannot continue working, you are protected by the Disability and Survival Insurance, which grants you a pension if you cannot continue working. The main functions of an AFP are to receive every month the contributions of each person, this contribution corresponds by law to 10% of the taxable salary (gross salary) of the member, plus the additional corresponding to insurance and commission.
